Glenn Maxwell Announces Retirement from International Cricket: Career Highlights & Stats

All-rounder Glenn Maxwell of Australia has announced that he will be retiring from playing international cricket after a 14-year-long career which has been marked by explosive batting and unconventional stroke play. The news was announced by the 38-year-old on November 3, 2026, in an episode of the cricket podcast, The Final Word.

Facing severe cramps and having restricted movement, he hit 21 fours and 10 sixes and created an unbeaten 202-run stand with Pat Cummins. Australia went on to win by three wickets.
It is one of the best individual performances recorded in the ODI World Cup till date.
Three World Cup Victories for Australia
Maxwell featured in three successful Australia World Cup victories. Maxwell won the 2015 and 2023 ODI World Cups and 2021 T20 World Cup.
He proved himself to be a great asset to the Australian team through his aggressive batting, off-spin bowling and brilliant fielding abilities.
Why Has Maxwell Retired?
Maxwell said that he wanted to concentrate on staying fit as well as getting ready for his last tournaments in his career. Maxwell was also hoping to have a good farewell at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, where he would play during the T20 series of Australia against England; however, he did not make the cut.
Even though Maxwell has retired from his international career, he will continue playing T20 cricket in franchises, including Melbourne Stars in the BBL.
