Winter Tourism Bookings Rise in Himachal Pradesh & Uttarakhand Ahead of Snow Season

The winter tourism demand is rising in the Himalayan states of India as travelers start making plans for their vacations before the start of the next snow season in 2026-27. There is increased interest in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand due to the snowy destinations with their mountain stays and winter adventures.
Some recent bookings have shown an increasing interest in the Himalayan destinations despite no statistics showing a doubling in the number of bookings in both of these states. As per the Zostel’s Festive Travel Pulse 2026 report, the bookings made by Zostel from October to December were nearly 50% more than the previous year.
Himachal Pradesh Sees Growing Tourist Interest
Increased tourist traffic is being observed in Himachal Pradesh due to better post-monsoon weather conditions and early snowfall in high-altitude locations.
The popular tourist spots of Shimla, Manali, Dharamshala, and Lahaul-Spiti have witnessed an inflow of tourists who wish to enjoy colder weather and other winter activities.
A report published on November 2 showed that around one lakh tourists had visited Himachal Pradesh in the previous weekend. Promotion of discounted rates by hotels was responsible for higher occupancy at hotels in certain places.
Growing demand has been witnessed in lesser-known spots in Himalayas. Zostel’s report showed a substantial increase in the number of bookings in Sangla, Kalpa, Shangarh, Chitkul, and Shoja.
Uttarakhand Promotes Winter Tourism
Uttarakhand is also planning to draw more tourists in the winter months. The state government has embarked on making winter tourism an integral part of the overall tourism policy of the state.
Winter tourism spots like Auli, Mussoorie, Nainital, Munsiyari, and Chopta will allow tourists to enjoy snowfall, trekking, and mountaineering experience based on prevailing weather conditions.
In an October 2026 meeting, the Uttarakhand Tourism Secretary, Dhiraj Singh Garbyal informed the Governor, Lieutenant General Gurmit Singh about the plans to promote winter and adventure tourism.
Some of the planned tourist attractions include snow leopard spotting, Himalayan car rally, ultramarathon, and adventure sports. There are also some plans to develop the connectivity and other arrangements for safety and infrastructure development.
Snowfall Remains a Major Attraction
According to the official tourism site of Himachal Pradesh, the months of December to February are considered the peak season for snowfall in places like Shimla, Kufri, and Manali.
Skiing and heli-skiing add to the season’s demands. The amount of snowfall, however, fluctuates every year and is another crucial aspect when planning one’s journey.
Hotels and Local Businesses Expect Seasonal Growth
This increase in travel interest can prove beneficial for hotels, homestays, taxis, restaurants and adventure tourism companies in both states.
Travelers are recommended to make arrangements for their stay and check the weather forecast prior to traveling to places at high altitudes.
Winter is around the corner, and Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand are ready to receive tourists who are looking for vacation in the mountains. The coming weeks will reveal the strength of their intentions.
