India vs Thailand Women’s Asia Cup 2026: Deepti Sharma’s 150th T20I Turns Historic as India Win by 94 Runs

India started their Women’s Asia Cup 2026 series by convincingly beating Thailand in the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. India did win this match convincingly, but the hero of the match was Deepti Sharma as she made their 150th T20I match more special for herself.
India ended up scoring 159/9 thanks to an excellent beginning from Shafali Verma, who made 64 runs in 36 balls. The spinners of Thailand played an important role in dismissing the middle order players of India, but the bowlers of India made sure that the target was not hard to achieve.
Deepti Sharma’s 150th T20I Becomes a Record Night
The match already had significance before the first ball was bowled. Deepti Sharma became just the third Indian woman to play 150 T20Is, being part of an elite Indian club which includes Harmanpreet Kaur and Smriti Mandhana. Across the globe, she was the twelfth woman who achieved the feat.
However, Deepti did more than just achieving a milestone. She delivered one of the finest bowling spells of her T20I career by picking up three wickets for zero runs off seven balls.
Her first two wickets fell in the ninth over where Thailand found themselves at 44/6. She came back into the attack in the 17th over to dismiss Nannapat Koncharoenkai, completing an exceptional spell of bowling. Her final statistics read 1.1 overs, one maiden, three wickets and zero runs.
Deepti Sharma Becomes Women’s T20I Leading Wicket-Taker
The spell also gave Deepti another major record. She entered the match with 168 T20I wickets, while Thailand captain Thipatcha Putthawong had moved to 170 during India’s innings. Deepti’s two wickets in the ninth over took her level with Putthawong before her final wicket pushed her to 171.
That means Deepti finished the match as the outright leading wicket-taker in women’s T20I cricket, one wicket ahead of Putthawong. She has now turned what was already a landmark appearance into another major milestone in her international career.
Shafali Verma Gives India the Perfect Start
Before Deepti’s bowling heroics, it was Shafali Verma who put India in control with the bat.
Shafali smashed 64 from only 36 deliveries, hitting eight fours and three sixes. She reached her half-century in just 26 balls and helped India race to 101/2 after 10 overs. For a period, India looked capable of pushing well beyond 180.
Smriti Mandhana contributed 19 from 10 balls, while Pratika Rawal, making her T20I debut, scored 22 from 18 deliveries. Rawal had been brought into the squad as Jemimah Rodrigues’ replacement after Rodrigues’ hamstring injury.
Thailand’s Spinners Expose India’s Middle-Order Problem
But India’s innings quickly came unstuck, with the spin bowlers of Thailand hitting back hard. Suleeporn Laomi took center stage with her terrific bowling performance.
Laomi had figures of 3/26 and accounted for the dismissal of Shafali, Richa Ghosh and Pratika Rawal. India went from being in a comfortable position to being in real trouble, conceding seven wickets for not many runs.
India managed to finish on 159/9, with Kranti Gaud scoring an undefeated 15 off just eight deliveries. Although India had enough runs on the board, their collapse cannot be ignored with some tough matches ahead for them.
India Bowled Out Throwing Their Spin Bowling Arsenal Against Thailand
India required a good start to make things difficult for Thailand in this game. And that is exactly what happened, with India’s bowlers putting the pressure on right from the start.
Both openers of Thailand fell victim to Nandini Sharma early in the innings. Sree Charani followed up with two wickets in her own right, while Deepti sealed the game with her two-wicket maiden to leave Thailand reeling at 44/6 after just nine overs.
What India’s Win Means for the Asia Cup Campaign
The 94-run victory gives India an excellent start to their Group A campaign and, importantly, a strong net-run-rate boost. India’s next match is against Hong Kong China, before the much-anticipated clash against Pakistan on September 5.
However, the batting collapse means India still have areas to address. Against a stronger opponent, losing seven wickets for a relatively small number of runs could prove costly. The bowling attack, on the other hand, delivered exactly the kind of ruthless performance India would have wanted at the start of a major tournament.
Why Deepti’s Performance Will Be Remembered
Instead of just marking Deepti Sharma’s 150th T20I as a career milestone, she ended up delivering another performance which added to the records in her career.
It was not only playing her 150th game but taking three wickets in a row, getting the title of leading wicket taker in women’s T20Is along with helping India register a 94-run victory which made it a memorable night for the all-rounder.
With this victory, India now has the momentum on their side. And Deepti now can add one more feather to her cap with such a performance in her career.
Conclusion
It’s not a simple victory for India by 94 runs against Thailand. The fireworks came from Shafali Verma with a score of 64 runs. Indian bowlers demolished the Thai team while chasing and Deepti Sharma made her 150th T20I a memorable one.
The middle order is still giving warnings to India, but with the result, India has exactly what they wanted at the start of the Asia Cup campaign: two points and a boost in NRR.
