PM Modi Inaugurates RBI’s ₹169-Crore Cybersecurity Institute; Warns Against Economic Cyber Attacks

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the newly constructed RBI Data Center and Cyber Security Training Institute in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, on October 25, 2026. Costing an estimated investment of ₹169 crore, the facility will seek to build upon India’s digital financial infrastructure and its preparedness against cybersecurity threats.
In his remarks made during the event’s inauguration, PM Modi stated that the modern-day war does not necessarily entail the use of conventional weaponry but could also encompass the economic front of the country. He highlighted the requirement for protecting India’s banking system from cybercriminals and cyberterrorists with the increase in digital banking.
RBI’s New Facility to Strengthen Banking Security
This latest RBI center is situated in Info Valley-II at Jatni, close to Bhubaneswar. The data center spans an area of 18.55 acres and is meant to serve the important functions of the financial system of India such as payment and settlements.
Additional computational resources will be provided by the data center to carry out the operations of RBI. The data center infrastructure will enable maintaining services during any kind of disruption.
Cybersecurity Training Institute to Build Specialised Skills
The Cybersecurity Training Institute will offer facilities for training, research, and development of capacities in cybersecurity and enterprise technology. The institution will engage itself in advanced technology like artificial intelligence and quantum computing. The aim will be to develop technological capacity in cybersecurity that can benefit the banking and financial services industry.
The Cybersecurity Training Institute is going to play an important role in training individuals capable of tackling complex cyber challenges. With the financial service industry becoming highly dependent on online platforms, there is a need for specialized training and improved security practices.
PM Modi Calls for Stronger Protection Against Cyber Threats
Narendra Modi stated that the old-school infrastructure and the old training systems might not be adequate enough to counter cyber-security challenges. He emphasized that modern infrastructure, people, and better security measures for the country’s banking system are needed.
In addition, he pointed out the shift in focus within the financial industry, where along with widening banking access, it is necessary to ensure efficiency, stability, and security.
The opening of the new data center and cyber security institute becomes another milestone on the path towards building strong technological infrastructure for the country’s financial system. The RBI wants to achieve the ability to operate in a more stable way and become better at addressing cyber challenges.
As the digital economy of India develops further, the issue of ensuring security of payment and banking systems will remain one of the key priorities.
