ISRO NVS-03 Launch on October 30: GSLV Mk II to Carry Navigation Satellite

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is preparing to launch its NVS-03 navigation satellite aboard the Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV) Mk II on October 30, 2026. The launch will be in line with the country’s endeavors to enhance its indigenously developed satellite navigation system known as NavIC.
NVS-03 Mission to Strengthen India’s NavIC System
The NVS-03 is among the second-generation NavIC (Navigation with Indian Constellation) satellites launched by ISRO. The NavIC is responsible for providing navigational services for India and neighboring regions as an alternative to depending on navigation services from foreign satellites.
The NavIC caters to the needs of positioning, navigation, and timing that are required for both strategic and civil applications. Such navigational services find their applicability in fields like transportation, navigation, disaster management, and location-based services.
ISRO’s annual report of 2025–26 confirms NVS-03 as one of the five second-generation navigation satellites meant to either replace or complement the aging NavIC constellation.
GSLV Mk II to Carry the Satellite
GSLV Mk II is a three-stage rocket built by ISRO that uses indigenous cryogenic technology as its upper stage for carrying heavier payloads into geosynchronous transfer orbits.
The launch of the rocket with NVS-03 will be conducted from Satish Dhawan Space Center in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh. This mission will add to the already existing capability of navigation in India.
Why the NVS-03 Launch Matters
Having an independent navigation system is critical for any application requiring reliable positioning and timing data. Upgrading NavIC could help its users in different industries while minimizing reliance on other navigation systems.
This future mission also contributes to the overall strategy of ISRO in maintaining and enhancing its satellite-based network. The effective functioning of the satellite is expected to become a crucial step in improving the capacity of NavIC.
The upcoming launch mission NVS-03 of ISRO is scheduled for October 30, 2026. The exact launch date is tentative and may vary.
