National SARAS Mela 2026 Kicks Off in Vijayawada to Showcase Rural Self-Help Group Products

National SARAS Mela 2026 is underway in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh. This event has been organized to give an opportunity to rural artisans, women entrepreneurs and members of self-help groups (SHGs) to display their traditional products and handicrafts as well as the goods made by them. This fair has been organized to give rural entrepreneurs an opportunity to get new buyers and increase their presence in the market.
This fair has been organized by the government in an effort to give livelihood support to rural people through self-help groups led by women. Visitors will be able to see different kinds of products including handloom, handicrafts, home décor, jewelry, regional cuisine, etc.
National SARAS Mela Promotes Women-Led Rural Enterprises
The SARAS Mela is one of the initiatives under the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana-National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NRLM). The organization promotes self-help groups for women in order to generate sustainable livelihoods.
Initially, the women may start up with simple activities like tailoring, food processing, crafts, weaving, and manufacturing of household items. With help of savings, credit facilities, and training, they may build their business ventures and earn financial independence.
The National SARAS Mela gives an opportunity to the entrepreneurs to exhibit their products to the buyers directly. Such exhibitions help the producers to know the customers’ needs, obtain feedback, and also find buyers outside the local area.
Traditional Products Meet New Market Opportunities
In the Vijayawada fair, one comes across goods which reflect the diversity of India and the traditional art of making goods in this country. The exhibition displays handwoven materials, ornaments, and even foodstuffs which have been locally manufactured by villagers.
Exhibitions provide opportunities for entrepreneurs not only to sell their goods but also to interact with consumers who will enable them to know how to price their goods and how best to display them according to the category of goods.
Participation in exhibitions can motivate SHGs to package their goods well, brand them and even use modern means such as the Internet to reach their customers.
Boosting Rural Livelihoods and Women’s Empowerment
Self-help organizations run by women are very useful in the process of economic development of rural areas as far as they create new opportunities for earning money and making decisions collectively. The SARAS Mela event provides an opportunity for the unification of producers on one stage, thus increasing the chances of marketing their products which would be rather difficult to sell otherwise.
Such access to consumers can contribute to the creation of extra sources of income, investments into production and employment generation among rural people. Additionally, exhibitions may motivate young members of the rural families to start their own business and preserve traditional crafts.
Nevertheless, the key to success is consistent access to customers, available working capital, product quality control and efficient distribution channels.
Why the National SARAS Mela Matters
Through the organization of the ‘National SARAS Mela 2026′ in Vijayawada, it has been possible to showcase the role of rural women entrepreneurs in contributing to the local economy of India. The event allows linking of self-help groups with consumers, which gives a chance for rural traditional products to be sold in new markets. At the same time, it helps to gain experience in doing business and confidence for producers.
At the same time, the project draws attention to the need for economic development in which the role of the rural population is active participation in commerce and not only being dependant on local demand.
The purpose of the fair is a broader goal of converting rural crafts into a sustainable source of income.
