Kohli Informs BCCI About His Retirement

According to reports, star batsman Virat Kohli has reportedly told the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) about his test retirement plan. The news follows not just weeks but only days after captain Rohit Sharma signalled his own retirement from Tests – a startling prospect for a country whose middle order is already surely starkest when the world’s finest white ball teams step up.

Sources close to the matter say BCCI officials had approached Kohli urgently demanding that he reconsiders his decision, ahead of the approaching five-Test tour of England. The BCCI is yet to hear of Kohli’s response to their appeal.
Reports reportedly emerged that Kohli started thinking of Test retirement during this year’s Border Gavaskar Trophy in Australia. The 36-year-old who managed to hit a century in the First Test, struggled for form thereafter.
Such a concurrent withdrawal by both Kohli and Sharma is a huge issue for Indian cricket as selectors are due to come together in the next few days to name the squad for the England tour.
If Kohli retains his place then, the team will have a very tall order of getting a largely inexperienced middle order to succeed against England’s capable attack.
