Why did Rohit Sharma leave test cricket? Revealed in the report, know the reason!

Rohit Sharma, who is arguably one of India’s best modern-day cricketers, shocked the cricketing fraternity on Wednesday when he announced his retirement from Test cricket. Some people were shocked, others were surprised in the middle of IPL 2025. Many fans are now wondering why Rohit made such a big step.
Well, it came out of nowhere. According to a report by The Indian Express, it stemmed from a decision made by Indian selectors.
The Trigger Point: A Conversation that ALtered Everything
Rohit was looking ahead to lead India in the upcoming Test series against England, and his mindset considering the Captaincy of a good bowling attack like Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj, where he thrives in English conditions.
But behind closed doors, so to speak, the AJ Agarkar led selection committee, discussed and planned to check on the leadership. After a poor series during the Isaac Border & Gaveskar Trophy which followed Rohit’s individual performance of 6.20 runs across the five innings to drop himself out of the last match, the selectors began to change their minds.
Selectors Strategy: Need to Move on
The selectors were mindful not to make the same errors as before. On the Australia tour, Rohit was in terrible form and was in a real dilemma because he was the captain and could not be dropped.
Rohit had recently returned to domestic cricket, playing in the Ranji Trophy to demonstrate to selectors that he was in it for the long haul, and committed to red-ball cricket. He wanted to get back in the side, based on his performance. The selectors were pushing for a new face to lead the side and build for the next Test cycle. The signs were clear.
