IPL 2025 Faces Sudden Suspension Over India-Pakistan Tensions

According to sources in BCCI, the Indian Premier League 2025 will be indefinitely suspended due to security concerns from mounting tensions between India and Pakistan as the military grows. A flood of lights was switched off in the middle of the game between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals held at Dharamsala’s HPCA Stadium due to the air raid alerts in the region, which led to Thursday’s match being abandoned. Players and spectators were evacuated on the spot because security was invoked accordingly.
The continuation of the tournament is at serious risk, remarked a senior official of the BCCI speaking on the record. The cricket board is to finalize its final decision based on emergency consultations on Friday.
With the north end of the airspace restricted, teams are being ferried by road from Dharamsala to Pathankot, where they will board a special train to Delhi. The security measures are in the wake of India’s recent missile strikes on terror camps, a reaction to the April 22 Pahalgam attack, where 26 lives were lost.
Some changes in the tournament schedule have already been made:
- The match to take place on May 11, between Mumbai Indians and Punjab Kings, is to be moved from Dharamsala to Ahmedabad.
- Cities such as Amritsar and Mohali, Jalandhar, and Chandigarh are now also facing regional blackouts.
- It is reported that foreign players want early departures due to the crisis.
This possible mid-season cancellation flirts with the 2021 IPL shutdown at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, and resumed in the UAE.
