Tirumala Temple Introduces AI Tech for Better Pilgrim Services

Developers are planning to use artificial intelligence and facial recognition systems to transform the pilgrimage experience at the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) temple. The idea is to make it easier to operate at the shrine, plus improve the safety of those who visit regularly each year.
The new system announced by Executive Officer J Syamala Rao will provide darshan tokens with facial recognition so that people receive them in a specific time slot. The technology will compare pilgrim photographs with a library of up to 10 lakh photos from the past 30 days to make sure no one can enter the camp twice.
Artificial intelligence will monitor how full the various temple areas and queues are. Because TTD can track in real time, visitors now receive accurate time estimates that help them plan their temple visits.

Besides managing the line, the facial recognition system will be responsible for assigning rooms, managing entry, and looking for unwanted guests in various temple areas. Initially, technology will optimise the darshan process before it is applied to all of TTD’s services.
After approving anti-drone technology last year, TTD has now introduced this initiative to help protect visitors while keeping the religious environment unchanged.
