Panchayat Season 4 Review: Lost in Election Chaos, Where is the Old Charm

After three seasons of heartwarming and relatable stories, the new season of Panchayat Season 4 does not meet expectations. Available on Amazon Prime Video, Season 4 pushes into local election politics as its theme, but it misses the endearing qualities of the season’s predecessor, which made it so popular.
What’s Different?
Season 4 pushes down the story of the upcoming Gram Panchayat elections. While there are new conflicts and characters because of this, there is also a sense that things are a little bit scattered and disingenuous, and ultimately, lack the balance of humor, simplicity, and poignancy that this show once had.
While they still exist in the same Phulera village, the writing from Panchayat Season 4 lacks freshness. The pacing of storylines feels way too long, and several of the secondary storylines seem lost or abruptly abandoned too quickly. The character arcs of the beloved favorites, Abhishek (Jitendra Kumar), Manju Devi (Neena Gupta), and Prahlad (Faisal Malik) feel underdeveloped, lack trust, or simply leave us hanging when either the payoffs don’t arise or feel too repetitive.
Acting Still Matters
The acting of the cast is familiar and trustworthy, but they were not given a strong story to work with in Season 4. Jitendra Kumar was still quite strong with his quiet strength, which was a redeeming value, while Rajghubir Yadav and Neena Gupta remained natural and genuine. Many of the rare emotional moments came from Faisal Malik’s portrayal of grief.
Final Verdict
Panchayat Season 4 is not horrible, but it is nowhere near the greatness of the previous seasons. It wants to be political, but then loses the heart and soul of Phulera, which made everyone fall in love.
If you’re a die-hard fan, you might want to watch it because you must watch it, just don’t expect the same magic.
