Denmark Open 2026: PV Sindhu and Lakshya Sen Suffer First-Round Exits at Super 750 Tournament

However, India’s top badminton athletes PV Sindhu and Lakshya Sen were handed early exits from the Denmark Open 2026 after suffering first-round losses at the BWF World Tour Super 750 tournament in Odense. The two badminton players played on Tuesday, October 13, but could not manage any win in their first match at the Denmark Open 2026.
PV Sindhu, who has won two Olympic medals, was beaten by Yvonne Li of Germany in women’s singles play, whereas Lakshya Sen lost against Chou Tien Chen of Chinese Taipei in men’s singles play at the event.
PV Sindhu Loses Three-Game Battle Against Yvonne Li
Sindhu began the encounter well by winning the first game against Li 21-13. However, Li managed to respond in the second game by winning 25-23, thus forcing a decider game.
In the decider game, despite being a close one, Li was able to remain composed to win 21-19. The encounter took one hour and five minutes, and it was the first time that the German shuttler beat the Olympic medallist from India.
Sindhu had chances of winning the match even before the decider game; however, she failed to capitalize on them to win the encounter in two games. Thus, her participation in the women’s singles event came to an end.
To Sindhu, the tournament was another chance to gauge her performances against other competitors internationally. Her early exit will help her evaluate herself before participating in other badminton tournaments.
Lakshya Sen Falls to Chou Tien Chen
Similarly, Lakshya Sen faced an equally tough opening-round match against his opponent Chou Tien Chen from Chinese Taipei.
While Chou won the first game by 21-18, Sen showed some resilience in the second game by winning 21-13 and thus drawing the match at that stage. However, Chou dominated the third game to win it 21-15 and thus winning the match with a scoreline of 21-18, 13-21, 21-15. The total time taken for this match was one hour and three minutes.
The defeat by Sen came in a tough match where the two players exhibited their aggressive attacking rallies.
Srikanth and Tanvi Keep India’s Campaign Alive
Despite the exit of Sindhu and Sen from the tournament, there was an encouraging performance by Kidambi Srikanth and Tanvi Sharma who managed to win their matches and move on to the next round.
This gives India more chances of representing itself in the singles tournaments during the rest of the tournament.
Denmark Open is taking place between October 13 and 18 at the SJF Bank Arena in Odense, Denmark. The tournament is classified under Super 750 of the BWF World Tour where the top international players play to earn rankings.
With Sindhu and Sen being eliminated from the competition, all eyes will now be set on the remaining Indian players.
