Virat Kohli Retires From Test Cricket After 14-Year Run

India’s legendary cricketer, Virat Kohli has officially announced his retirement to Test cricket after an incredible 14-year in the longest format. His exit comes as other captain Rohit Sharma announces his retirement from Test cricket.

In his first Test match in 2011, Kohli notched up an excellent total of 9,230 runs in 123 matches with a batting average of 46.85 runs. This marvelous record of 30 centuries and 31 half-centuries when Kohli streaked down the line confirmed his place amongst India as one of their most distinguished Test batsman.
36 years old, the Times announced the special bond he shared with Test cricket in a touching post on Instagram. On thinking of his goodbye to Test cricket, Kohli worte, “There’s something deeply personal about playing in whites. The quiet grind, the long days, the small moments that no one sees but that stay with you forever.”
Kohli’s role as a Test captain has left no room for any other person in the history of Indian cricket:
- He guided India to win 40 of his 68 Test matches as captain.
- India’s most successful Test captaincy.
- Global leaders in all Test captain wins, in the 4th place.
- Brought India all the way through to the 1st edition of the World Test Championship final in 2021
