MHA to Launch ‘Special Campaign 6.0’ From October 2 for Workplace Cleanliness

Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) is preparing itself to be a part of Special Campaign 6.0, which is an annual initiative of the Centre for achieving cleanliness, reduction in pendency and efficient administration of Government offices. The campaign will have its implementation period from October 2 to October 31, 2026 after its preparatory phase which started in September.
For MHA, this campaign will not only be about cleaning the office premises but will also include creation of sustainable workplaces along with attending to the issues of pending references, records and government facing offices.
What is Special Campaign 6.0?
Special Campaign 6.0 is another step by the Centre to bring about Swachhata, administrative efficiency and reduction of pendency in government offices. The campaign will be conducted under the aegis of the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG).
Its major implementation period is scheduled to begin from October 2, Gandhi Jayanti and continue till October 31, 2026. The preparatory period is being used by ministries/departments for identification of pending references, reviewing records and finding obsolete material.
What Will MHA Do Under the Campaign?
The special campaign 6.0 of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare will be directed towards creating more clean and sustainable workplaces in offices of the ministry. It will give particular focus to field and outstation offices where officers will be dealing with people.
Efforts will be made for minimizing pendency arising out of references of Members of Parliament, state governments, assurances of the parliament, consultations between different ministries, public grievances and appeals. Effective management of records will be yet another key component of the special campaign.
Why Cleanliness at Workplaces is Such an Important Component
For the special campaign 6.0, cleanliness will be seen as a component of good governance as opposed to being a simple task of housekeeping. Files which are no longer relevant, unused equipment, scrap materials and other kinds of things create a clutter in government offices which makes them less organized.
Scientific management of waste, including e-waste, is becoming increasingly important as part of the national campaign.
E-Waste Management Gets Greater Attention
One of the interesting focuses in the current year is that of e-waste. Government departments heavily rely on computer systems, printers, networking infrastructure, and other forms of electronic equipment and hence there is a need for effective e-waste management.
Through Special Campaign 6.0, departments participating in the initiative are supposed to improve e-waste collection, segregation and disposal processes. In fact, the Department of Higher Education has identified efficient e-waste management as an important requirement in the context of participation in the campaign.
In case of MHA departments, the overall initiative for sustainable work environment implies that there would be an increasing connection between cleanliness and responsible management of resources and waste.
How Does It Affect MHA Departments?
The initiative has special significance for MHA departments and establishments that deal with citizens. Effective cleaning of work environment, better organisation of documents and faster completion of pending business may help in improving service delivery from MHA departments.
The ministry has specifically mentioned that special attention would be given to field and outstation offices that have interfaces with citizens.
How Will the Campaign Be Monitored?
The implementation of Special Campaign 6.0 by MHA is being watched very carefully at the highest level of the ministry. The success will be measured based on the goals set during the preparatory stage.
On a governmental level, a special web portal has been developed to watch how the campaign is progressing among various ministries and departments. DARPG has been managing the Special Campaigns since they began in 2021.
What Happened During Previous Campaigns?
Special Campaign 6.0 is based on the results of previous versions. As stated by the government, five Special Campaigns from 2021 till 2025, along with subsequent monitoring of Secretariat Reforms, have involved more than 24.20 lakh sites, whereas over 180.48 lakh files have been weeded out or closed.
Only in Special Campaign 5, almost 11.6 lakh sites were involved, about 29.52 lakh files were weeded out, over 233.75 lakh square feet of office space became available, and about ₹833.92 crore was earned by disposing of scrap.
Why Special Campaign 6.0 Matters
The recent campaign marks a change from perceiving cleanliness as a one-off activity to seeing it as an aspect of daily government activities. The government has characterized the campaign as a move that seeks to ensure that cleanliness, efficiency and responsiveness are a feature of governance on a continuous basis.
For MHA, the aspect of workplace environment alongside administrative pending tasks implies that the campaign will involve cleanliness as well as administrative tidying up.
Conclusion
MHA Special Campaign 6.0 will start its implementation phase from October 2 to October 31, 2026. The campaign will focus on improved workplace environments, improved record-keeping, management of obsolete records, e-waste management, and prompt resolution of pending issues.
