India & Switzerland Sign Bilateral Pacts on Migration, Mobility and Clean Energy

India and Switzerland have made efforts towards strengthening their bilateral relationship after the state visit of Swiss President Guy Parmelin to India’s capital New Delhi on October 5, 2026. Both nations signed memorandums for migration, mobility, and exchange of young professionals. They also enhanced cooperation in the areas of trade, infrastructure, research, technology, and clean energy.
India-Switzerland Migration and Mobility Pact
Migration and mobility partnership of India and Switzerland focuses on facilitating the creation of more structured and legal pathways of mobility between India and Switzerland. In addition to cooperation in education, science, and employment, it will also focus on irregular migration, human trafficking, document fraud, and readmission of nationals of either of the countries who have been asked to leave the country due to certain reasons. In addition to this partnership agreement, there is an agreement of young professionals, which will facilitate mobility of eligible candidates between the two countries for training.
Clean Energy and Research Cooperation
Clean energy is yet another crucial aspect of the growing India-Swiss relationship. India and Switzerland have been cooperating in renewable energy, energy efficiency, low-carbon development, and climate resilience. Swiss Development Cooperation in India has implemented projects focused on renewable energy for buildings, solar irrigation, low-carbon cement, and sustainable urban development.
During the recent visit, both countries have also considered launching new joint research initiatives in areas such as health, clean energy, and space. Such cooperation may open up new possibilities for universities, research organizations, tech companies, and enterprises that work on sustainable solutions.
India-Switzerland Partnership at Larger Scale
The latest agreements are based on the India-EFTA Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement (TEPA) that involves Switzerland and came into force in October 2025. As a part of this partnership, India aims to attract investments worth $100 billion and generate one million direct jobs within 15 years. Hence, the latest agreements between India and Switzerland expand their bilateral relations beyond trade through mobility, skills, research, clean energy, and investments.
