Security Intensified Across Central Delhi Ahead of CJP’s October 10 ‘Delhi Chalo’ Protest

Security has been increased in Central Delhi in anticipation of the October 10 protest organized by the CJP named ‘Delhi Chalo’. The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has officially informed the Delhi Police about the planned protest, the theme of which will revolve around the concerns regarding the Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and electoral roll problems.
Why Is Security Being Increased in Central Delhi?
These measures are taking place against the backdrop of various protests which are occurring in the capital against electoral roll revision, amongst other issues, and directed towards the Election Commission. The Delhi Police has increased the number of forces in sensitive locations such as Parliament Street, Jantar Mantar, and around important government buildings.
It has been reported that about 11,000 more members of Central Armed Police Force will be deployed in the city before the mass mobilization on October 10. The police in Delhi will also increase their deployment in anticipation of crowd movement and traffic disruptions.
The police authorities have reportedly asked local police to keep an eye on movements towards New Delhi, including busloads of people heading there. Measures are also being taken around educational institutes and paying guest accommodations.
What Is the CJP’s ‘Delhi Chalo’ Protest?
The ‘Delhi Chalo’ demonstration by the CJP has been announced after the previous rally held by the party in Mumbai. The leaders of CJP have asked their supporters and youth members from all over India to meet at Jantar Mantar on October 10.
The CJP has demanded the resignation of the Chief Election Commissioner, Gyanesh Kumar, and made allegations against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Several student groups have also announced that they will participate in the rally on October 10.
On October 7, the spokesman of the CJP, Saurav Das, handed over the notice to the Delhi Police.
Police Restrictions and Public Order Measures
It is said that the Delhi Police has denied permission for the proposed protest rally in Jantar Mantar, while restrictions for gatherings are imposed in certain areas of New Delhi.
This move is taken keeping in mind the fact that the central part of Delhi has already seen some protests that resulted in traffic disruptions in the area of roads leading to Jantar Mantar. The protests on October 10 will have people from various places coming together to participate in the protests.
