Air India Served Notice After 3 Foreign Nationals Depart Delhi Airport Without Immigration Clearance

Air India is facing scrutiny after three Italian nationals reportedly flew out of Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport without completing the mandatory immigration process. The passengers had travelled from Amritsar to Delhi on an Air India flight before boarding a Lufthansa flight to Munich early on September 4.

The Ministry of Civil Aviation has issued a show-cause notice to Air India over what it described as a serious security and immigration-related lapse. The airline has been given seven days to explain how the passengers were able to reach the international departure area without undergoing the required immigration clearance.

This happened during the early hours of September 4. The passengers landed at Delhi from Amritsar via Air India flight AI-1115 at about 12:50 am. About 55 minutes after this, the passengers boarded Lufthansa flight LH-763 bound for Munich, which has codeshare agreement with Air India.

The issue here is that the passengers were moving from a domestic airport to an international destination through Delhi. In such a situation, the passengers would be required to clear the mandatory immigration process before departing from India.

However, the passengers allegedly went to the international transfer zone and got to their boarding gates without clearing the mandatory immigration process.
