Wipro Makes Significant Move Towards Zero Carbon Emission Solutions With British National Grid
Bengaluru –Wipro Limited has signed up with UK’s National Grid to accelerate the latter’s digital innovation journey, confirmed reports have come in. This is a multi-year, global strategic IT and digital deal that will pave the way for a hybrid cloud solution apart from providing integration to National Grid’s managed services and help consolidate its data centers across the United Kingdom and the United States.
According to spokesperson Daniel Jablonski, Head of Cloud and Hosting Services, National Grid, “Our data center consolidation efforts will allow us to realize an over 60 percent reduction in our data center footprint as well as realize a 40 percent reduction in our data center CO2 emissions. Additionally, this transformational program, in conjunction with Wipro, will position our IT capabilities to enable modernized SDDC techniques, technologies, and operating models to accelerate our own digital transformation as National Grid continues to build the future of energy.”
Cloud-based data management is fast becoming a wise way of managing sensitive data and reducing the overall carbon footprint of any large frame organization. Under this new setup, the two-decade-old partnership will see Wipro employing standardized tools and processes to provide cloud services that will strengthen National Grid’s infrastructure services, and support its strategic business objectives.
Working in tandem with the Paris Agreement of Net-zero carbon emissions by 2050, businesses are being expected to be the game-changers. According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), the majority of CO2 emission reductions through 2030 will come from technologies on the market. For starters, the energy sector is going to play a key role in reaching it. However, technology is being seen as ‘critical’ in achieving carbon neutrality. Here, startups are also going to be playing a significant role.
