Qazi Ditched Ekta Kapoor? Singer Explains

Qazi Touqeer has revisited a turning point from his early career, recalling how his Ekta Kapoor TV offer became a headline-making story after he turned down a role. Speaking to fellow Bigg Boss 20 contestant Aamrapali Dubey, he said he did not mean to snub Kapoor. He was only 20 at the time and struggled to understand the character she described.

Why Qazi Touqeer Turned Down Ekta Kapoor’s Offer

Qazi said Kapoor had approached him after he came up with the ‘Fame Gurukul’ singing reality show and won it in 2005 with Ruprekha Banerjee. He earned ₹50 lakh, a music contract and a car on the win. He was reportedly being considered for a serial, where he would be cast as a rockstar, by Kapoor. In another one of Qazi’s reports, he had identified the film as ‘Kaisa Yeh Pyaar Hai’, where actor Iqbal Khan was playing Angad.

Qazi recalled that at the time, he was young and distracted by Kapoor’s rings as she explained the role to him. He said he was unable “to say no” face-to-face to Kapoor, so he had spoken to a woman called Anupama and told her that he had already inked a film deal. The people in attendance were receptive to his decision, he said.

‘Qazi Ditched Ekta Kapoor’: The Headlines That Followed

The next morning came a surprise, said Qazi. As he was eating breakfast, he read the headlines, “Qazi ditched Ekta Kapoor,” and that he now had a “bigger fish to fry”. He said he was “shamed in public by the reporting of it.

When this happened, there wasn’t more of a social media option for celebrities to get immediate responses or to explain. “But I don’t have a nice way to fix the storylines that people have formed in their heads,” Qazi said. Fame Gurukul to Bigg Boss 20 Journey

Winning Fame Gurukul in 2005 brought Qazi rapid attention and major opportunities. He has also said he turned down an early Bigg Boss offer and a chance to host Jo Jeeta Wohi Superstar, as he chose to focus on a film commitment. The film plans did not unfold as expected, and he later continued to work in music and acting.

Qazi is now back in the public eye as a contestant on ‘Bigg Boss 20’. His recollection adds context to a decision that followed him for years: he says he did not reject Kapoor out of disrespect, but because he did not connect with the role and believed he was committed elsewhere.
