The Union Cabinet has sanctioned the Kashi Ganga Corridor, which is one of the most ambitious urban infrastructure projects that have been envisioned in Varanasi in recent times. The Ganga Corridor is an elevated highway corridor spanning a length of 46.04 kilometres along the banks of the River Ganga in Varanasi.
As per the sanctioned plan for the Ganga Corridor, it is supposed to be mostly an elevated road of 6 lanes which links NH-19 with the Varanasi Ring Road. This project is planned to provide better connectivity between the important highways and different areas of the city without entering into the busy city roads.
In contrast to the already existing Kashi Vishwanath Dham Corridor which is meant for the movement of pilgrims from the temple to ghats, the Ganga Corridor is a transport infrastructure project.

However, since the final design of the road will be done during the implementation phase, the approved route will be roughly in line with the bank of River Ganga and will connect NH-19 with Ring Road through an elevated highway.
