J&J To Introduce Covid-19 Vaccine In India Soon
India has plans to launch the US pharma giant Johnson & Johnson’s which is bringing in its Covid-19 vaccine. For this, the pharma company Biological E has begun discussions with the country’s apex vaccine testing laboratory, the Central Drugs Laboratory. India is beginning to become a market for Covid-19 vaccines in the coming months.
Biological E is a Hyderabad based company that has been contracted by J&J to initiate mass production of one-vaccine shot. CDL in Himachal Pradesh would be adhering to standard testing procedures for the American vaccine.
There are indications of contract manufacturing of over 500 million doses annually. In April, J&J had also indicated that it was in discussions with the Government of India with the objective of starting a bridging clinical study. However, now, according to new rules, it is not mandatory for the vaccine approved by the US drug regulator to conduct bridging trials in India.
However, CDL has asked for a list of reagents from the Indian counterpart and that it can carry out the required tests for testing the potency of the vaccine. J&J however has its own methods to test potency. CDL generally develops its own technique of testing the vaccines by combining the procedures adopted by the manufacturer and innovating their procedures over time to save cost, time and ensure accurate results.
India has now got one of its own, one from Astra-Zeneca Oxford and soon, one from Moderna and Pfizer each to be offered to Indians for vaccination. With J&J introducing its own, there is more to look forward to.
