In Assam, the First Phase of Revamp of Police Academy Inaugurated by Amit Shah
On Saturday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the first phase of the Lachit Barphukan Police Academy in Dergaon, Golaghat district of Assam, and laid the foundation stone for the second phase of this ambitious project, which is going to modernize police training facilities in the state.
A Modern Law Enforcement Training Hub
The overhaul of this police academy, which occupies an area of 340 acres, is pegged at a staggering ₹1,024 crore. The first phase, costing ₹167.4 cror,e consists of a five-storied training complex having:
- Smart classrooms fitted with digital boards and personal computers
- A weapon training simulator for combat drills in a risk-free environment
- Research labs and offices
- A museum on the history of Assam Police
- A modern parade ground for cadet training
One of the key highlights is the weapon training simulator, which allows police personnel to rehearse fire handling and combat without the real-life risk. This sophisticated system can be adapted to an array of weapon systems, targeting an improvement in recruits’ shooting accuracy and tactical drills.
Next Steps: Second Phase Outline
The housing infrastructure will be funded under Phase Two, with an expected cost of ₹425.48 crore, which will provide:
- Residential accommodation for 240 families
- Hostels for 312 officers and 2,640 trainees
Dignitaries Present
Mr. Shah was accompanied by the Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma, Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, and other senior officials. After being briefed by Assam DGP Harmeet Singh on the facility layout, the Home Minister toured the newly constructed complex.
Amit Shah, while addressing the gathering, reiterated that the government was committed to making new infrastructure for training police personnel and giving them advanced types of technology.
As a result of the modernization, the Lachit Barphukan Police Academy is expected to be one of the foremost training centers across India, thus ensuring that the police forces in Assam are armed with what it takes to confront contemporary security challenges.
