Team India to have new physios, trainers; NCA to hire ‘rehab specialist’
The BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) will be recruiting physios and trainers for the SSSM (Sports Science & Sports Medicine) team.
Team India including men, women, and junior teams will soon have new physios and Strength and Conditioning coaches. The SSSM team is headed by Nitin Patel. The BCCI will also make recruitments for dedicated “rehab specialists” working on injury management.
Both physios and S&C coaches have two categories of recruitment. Under category 1, the coaches will work with senior men’s and women’s teams. Under category 2, coaches will work with junior men and women and domestic cricket.
The National Cricket Academy (NCA) will hire rehab specialists. The NCA has sought applications to hire specialists. The specialists will look after the players and work on injury management. The NCA will be responsible for providing injury prevention services to athletes contracted with BCCI.
According to The Times of India, the BCCI in the past has dealt with a lot of players who have not taken their rehabilitation seriously. The players reportedly made NCA their ‘second home.’ Reportedly, things changed when M.S. Dhoni took over the captaincy of the Indian team. When Virat Kohli took captaincy, fitness became important for most of the players.
The new NCA operations are likely to increase. Nitin Patel will be the key person to implement the long-term vision. A dedicated team of physios and trainers will be working under him.
Reportedly, most of the current Indian team and NCA staff are expected to reapply and get back into the system. The BCCI is keen to pursue a holistic approach for developing cricketers under the new NCA operations.
The BCCI also described the responsibilities of the job. It wrote, “The BCCI is committed to provide a high-performance environment for its athletes.” The BCCI further said that the Coach will play a key role in contributing and providing support to players.
