New EPFO Portal Explained: What It Means for Your PF Account, Claims and Withdrawals
The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation has introduced its new and improved EPFO portal in the latest digital transformation drive that intends to make provident fund related services quick and easy.
The improved portal includes intelligent claims processing and other features for faster transactions as well as a streamlined interface for making the process more convenient for millions of EPF members. This digital transformation initiative by EPFO comes as part of its CITES 2.01 program.
What Is the New EPFO Portal?

Changes to UAN Services
Another significant modification is regarding Universal Account Number (UAN) services. Post-Portal Update, creation of New UANs and Activation of such UANs is no longer provided from the Unified Member Portal. These services have been moved to the UMANG app utilizing Face Authentication based on Aadhaar. However, all other UAN Services including Account Retrieval, etc., remain the same from the updated eco-system.
Why Was the Portal Upgraded?
The modernization is occurring as part of the continuing process of digitization of EPFO.
In the past, there was temporary disruption of services while EPFO did the database consolidation and upgrading of software. This was done in an effort to increase the efficiency of the system.
What Should EPF Members Do Now?
The member should make sure that the Aadhaar number, PAN number, bank account details, and mobile number associated with his EPF account are all updated.
Updating the KYC details will save the members from any kind of delays when they log on to the portal. Those members who wish to activate the UAN can now use the UMANG app.
Why This Upgrade Matters
There are more than seven crores of EPF account holders in India, and digitization of services has played an important role in helping people withdraw their retirement savings.
