Hylo Open 2026: Lakshya Sen Beats Jonatan Christie in Straight Sets to Win Men’s Singles Title

Indian badminton player Lakshya Sen claimed the men’s singles crown at the Hylo Open 2026 following his victory over Indonesian player Jonatan Christie in straight games in the final held on November 1. Lakshya, seeded seventh at the Hylo Open 2026, bagged an easy 21-17, 21-10 victory in 39 minutes in Saarlandhalle, Saarbrücken, Germany.
With this victory, Lakshya not only claimed his first World Badminton Federation (BWF) World Tour title in 2026 but his second Hylo Open title.
Lakshya Sen Dominates Jonatan Christie in Final
The match kicked off with both players trying to take control by playing aggressively. Lakshya came out well, as he utilized his smashes, placement skills, and court coverage abilities to gain an early advantage.
Christie, who is the fourth seed and last year’s winner, tried to fight back and equalized the scoreline in some vital moments in the first game. But Lakshya managed to stay composed and scored important points at the end of the game to clinch the first game 21-17.
Lakshya stepped up his intensity in the second game. The attacking and defensive play of the Indian pushed Christie into committing mistakes, thus allowing him to gain an advantage. Lakshya kept himself in control during the entire game and won 21-10, winning the championship.g
This victory also made the overall head-to-head scoreline even (4-4).
A Strong Comeback After a Challenging Season
Lakshya’s victory in Hylo Open becomes even more important for him as he had an inconsistent performance in the 2026 season. Even though he made it to the final at the All England Open early in the season, he could not repeat the same success throughout the season.
In his journey to the final in Germany, he played a number of tough matches. In the semi-final match, Lakshya won against Toma Junior Popov from France 21-17, 21-13.
This victory gives him a morale boost while playing in international tournaments of badminton.
India Celebrates Double Singles Triumph at Hylo Open
Lakshya‘s success was just one of many highlights of a special day for Indian badminton. PV Sindhu, a two-time Olympic medallist, went on to secure the title in women’s singles by beating Line Kjaersfeldt from Denmark 21-12, 21-14.
PV Sindhu was the first Indian woman who won the Hylo Open women’s singles title. The success of both Indian players, in the men’s and women’s singles respectively, brought India a double victory in the BWF World Tour Super 500 tournament.
