Jasprit Bumrah Likely to Miss IPL 2025 Opening Matches Due to Injury Concerns
Mumbai Indians ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah might not be available for the initial two weeks of the IPL 2025 season as he recovers from a lower back injury he suffered while playing in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in January. Bumrah has begun bowling again at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru but it’s not likely he’ll be able to get fully fit in time for the IPL opener. The pacer is likely to report at the Mumbai Indians camp in the first week of April and is likely to miss the first three-four games of the season.
Bumrah’s fitness is important not just for IPL 2025 but also for India’s tour of England later, after the IPL. Indian selectors are keeping a close eye on Bumrah and teammate Mohammed Shami’s fitness for the five-Test series. The team management does not want to overburden both bowlers with their history of injuries, particularly after Bumrah’s unavailability at match turning stages in Australia.
The medical staff of the BCCI will keep monitoring Bumrah’s recovery and won’t ask him for intense cricket until he is completely fit. It’s also uncertain whether Rohit Sharma will continue to be available as India’s Test skipper, with Bumrah being a likely candidate in case the selectors decide against handing over the reins to a younger leader.
With Mumbai Indians starting their IPL journey, the fitness of their star bowler will continue to be an important factor in deciding their performance in the initial phase of the tournament.
