Meghalaya– Gone are the days when a single party used to have unprecedented rule over a state as the dynamics of Indian politics are rapidly changing and people are quick to make their opinions known to the elected representatives by the power of voting.
However, there is one state that has had its share of stable political run in the country and it is West Bengal. Interestingly, it was also the state that saw some initial wave of the communist uprising 20 years ago. But now, it is the soil where Trinamool Congress has well established itself under the leadership of Mamta Banerjee.
Earlier a similar situation was found for Congress where it was evident that certain states had a record of preferring the Indian National Congress over any other regional or national party but over time, people have started to lose hope on them. It is now highly possible that TMC might be the party to bet on for a strong opposition in the center.
The power TMC holds in the state is pretty clear after its victory over the national ruling party, Bharatiya Janata Party. It outdid itself when the Banerjee-led party thrashed BJP and along with it, it also ended the run of anti-BJP parties from the state.

After the results of the 2019 elections, it was being assumed that BJP has great chances of establishing itself in West Bengal but after the 2021 loss, TMC’s dominance has once again been proven.
Mamta Banerjee’s confidence has also taken a new turn as now the state chief minister is focusing on poaching ministers from the BJP and also Congress from other states.
The latest shift was of 12 Congress MLAs in Meghalaya. Now that the 12 ministers have joined TMC’s, the regional party has come into the front foot and become the main opposition party in the north-eastern state. If we were to go by the Lok Sabha maths, it is clear that slowly, TMC is taking over Congress as the main opposition on the national level. Surely, Banerjee’s team has a long way to go to challenge the much older and secure Congress party but with the current dynamic, it is highly possible that TMC may target Gandhi clan to be a front runner.
