How Do You Qualify For World Cup Fencing In 2023?
To qualify for World Cup fencing, fencers need to earn points through specific domestic and international tournaments. The qualification process differs based on age categories: Cadet, Junior, and Senior.
1. Cadet Fencers Applying Criteria
For Cadet fencers (under 17 years old), the top twenty US citizen fencers on the national rolling points list are eligible for designated World Cup events.
Points are earned by placing at specific events like NACs, Junior Olympic Fencing Championships, and USA Fencing National Championships.
Points stay on the list for a continuous 12-month period and are used for various national and international competitions.
2. Junior Fencers Applying Criteria
Junior fencers (under 20 years old) need to be among the top twelve US citizen fencers on the national rolling points list to qualify for World Cup events. Similar to Cadet fencers, they earn points through specific tournaments and have a 12-month rolling points system.
3. Senior Fencers Applying Criteria
Senior fencers (over 20 years old) also need to be in the top twelve US citizen fencers on the national rolling points list for World Cup qualification. They earn points by performing well in designated domestic and international tournaments, which are part of the 12-month rolling points system.
In all age categories, points earned in events are retained on the national points list until the competition is held again, or one year after it was held if it’s not repeated.
The rolling points are used for seeding in national competitions, qualifying for championships like Junior Olympic Fencing Championships and Division I National Championships, and selection for international events at the beginning of the season.
The top finishers in events with different numbers of participants earn national rolling points, with the top 32 or top 64 fencers earning points based on the event’s size.
It’s essential for fencers to accumulate points consistently to improve their rankings and increase their chances of qualifying for World Cup events.
