Gangers Movie Review: A Confused Heist Comedy Lifted by Vadivelu

Vadivelu brings the laughs, but even he can’t rescue this confused heist comedy with Gangers, Sundar C has attempted at new horizons by combining action, comedy, and some emotion, and ended up creating a confused or mixed concoction of all three things and nothing. A movie that was set out to be a heist comedy now looks more like a below-average school drama which has some gangsters thrown in casually here and there. One bright side is Vadivelu, as he proves again why he is a comedy legend.
A great idea that is lost completely:
The story revolves around a group of teachers, led by Sujitha (Catherine Tresa), who plot a heist in their school. Things go sideways when a newcomer teacher, Saravanan (Sundar C), enters who might be a cop. One of them includes Singaram (Vadivelu), who is portrayed as a clueless and lovable teacher who gets caught up unknowingly in the entire mess.
Vadivelu is The hero of the film:
Vadivelu alone made Gangers able to float above an ocean of mediocrity. His scenes, particularly between that of Alexa and a hilarious monologue, offer great laugh-out-loud moments. This is a treat for fans of Sundar C and Vadivelu because, after 14 years of singles or plays, they are again paired together, as in the past for movies like Winner and Giri.
But then again, Vadivelu all alone can’t do the job. The character of Catherine Tresa is flat and nothing more than that, caught up in this perpetual loop of “damsel in distress”.
Not much shine on the technical side either:
C Sathya‘s music is decent in certain portions; it gives momentary pep for the action scenes. VFX falls to the category of outdated and dull. The final heist- which was supposed to be the most hightened and excitement-gripped part of the story- was lethargically slow and featured vaudevillian comedy like cross-dressing and degraded jokes that don’t land anymore.
