e-Sanjeevani Achieves 50 Crore Teleconsultations: Union Health Ministry Expands Digital Healthcare

The national telemedicine program of India, e-Sanjeevani, has reached the landmark figure of 50 crore teleconsultations. This marks an important milestone for the digital healthcare journey of India. The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare made the announcement regarding this feat on October 6, 2026. It signifies the importance of technology in increasing access to health care facilities, especially in remote areas.
The program reached this figure on September 15, with a total figure of 50,00,92,730 consultations from all 36 States and Union Territories.
e-Sanjeevani Expands Its Nationwide Healthcare Network
e-Sanjeevani, created by the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), allows patients to communicate with healthcare professionals virtually. This is done using two different systems, namely doctor to doctor consultation backed by healthcare establishments and patient to doctor consultation through virtual outpatient departments.
According to the Ministry of Health, e-Sanjeevani supports over 1.42 lakhs of Ayushman Arogya Mandir spokes, 19,473 medical centers, and 901 virtual OPD’s. It also has over 2.42 lakh healthcare professionals registered and conducts about 2.5 lakh to 3 lakh consultations each day.
It is available in 15 languages; English and 14 Indian languages.
Women and Senior Citizens Benefit From Telemedicine
Usage statistics of the platform reflect how far it has spread across different demographic segments. Women make up 57.14% of all consultations conducted through the platform, whereas 40.15% of consultations take place with patients 46 years and older. People older than 60 years contribute 16.25% of all the usage of the platform.
In case people live far from hospitals and specialized institutions, telemedicine could lower travel time and costs, as well as reduce the number of consultations needed. Telemedicine allows linking local medical care providers with physicians working in big hospitals.
Still, remote consultation is supplementary to face-to-face consultation and emergency treatment when it is needed.
AI Integration and Specialist Consultations Strengthen Services
An AI-CDSS (Clinical Decision Support System powered by artificial intelligence) has been adopted in e-Sanjeevani that will help doctors during consultations. The purpose of adopting this system is to enhance clinical decision-making and efficiency in providing care.
Another feature is ERSS-112 integration that will enhance coordination between the emergency response system and remote medical experts.
Furthermore, in order to facilitate specialist consultation from the comfort of one’s home and not require patients to visit major medical centers, specialist outpatient teleconsultations have been introduced at AIIMS Jodhpur, AIIMS Jammu and AIIMS Patna.
A Major Step Towards Digital Healthcare Access
It has become clear that the achievement of 50 crores is indicative of how the digital public infrastructure of India is growing and providing healthcare services.
If e-Sanjeevani continues to grow as it develops specialist care and other digital services, then it can be seen as playing an increasingly important part in improving accessibility and affordability of healthcare.
