Disney+ Hotstar is going to stream ‘The Night Manager’ from 17th Feb. Anil Kapoor portrays an arm dealer whereas Aditya Roy Kapur is an ex-soldier & a hotel’s manager.
The Night Manager, a suspense drama starring Anil Kapoor and Aditya Roy Kapur, will premiere on Disney+ Hotstar on February 17.
The series is made by The Ink Factory and Banijay Asia, and it was created, directed, and co-directed by Sandeep Modi and Priyanka Ghosh.
Shahid Kapoor, Sidharth Malhotra, Varun Dhawan, and Anushka Sharma—mainstream cinema actors who will soon appear in web originals—will likely command a 15-20% premium over the pay they typically receive for feature film projects.
Only a small number of these original series with film stars are now being produced by OTT (over-the-top) streaming services, but they nevertheless have faith in their appeal to viewers.
Additionally, larger income results from the concept that actors are required to put in more labor hours for 8–10 episode shows and do not get to own any IP when it comes to web ventures.
Actors like Dhawan and Malhotra may earn anywhere from 20 to 30 crore for film roles.
As per media industry analysts, higher pay has always been one of the reasons stars have chosen smaller screens over larger ones. In fact, television has typically paid more due to the higher amount of programming hours.
A film only needs two and a half hours of content at most, however a web series uses the star’s time over several episodes, which results in approximately 5 to 6 hours of content.
Films are significantly star-dependent, with lead performers accounting for close to 70–80% of the overall expenditure and production for only 20–25%, whereas web projects devote at least 40–45% of total investments to production standards.
While the number of days the star is required for and the number of seasons they have committed to may affect their final remuneration, streaming services continue to understand that having stars ensures their audience is reached.
