Bomb Blast Investigation At Amritsar Temple, Grenades Explode

There was a shocking grenade attack on the Thakurdwara temple in Khandwala, Amritsar, in the early hours of Saturday, March 15. The assailants walled the temple with a hand grenade and sped away on a motorcycle. The incident was caught on CCTV; hence, it has raised some serious concerns regarding the security of the place.
Explosion in the Dead of Night
Panic reverberated among residents at around 12:35 AM, when the sound was followed by a blast. The blast, however, resulted in no injuries, as the priest of the temple was present inside when it went off but was unharmed.
CCTV footage shows two young men arriving on a motorcycle, carrying a flag. They stopped for a moment near the temple before throwing the grenade and immediately made their escape. A little later, the area was rocked by an immense explosion.
Investigation Underway
Amritsar Police Commissioner Gurpreet Bhullar pointed out the possible Pakistan link to the incident. “Pakistan indulges in such mischief often,” he said, adding that the case was being taken very seriously now.
Though the type of explosive is yet to be identified, the police have stepped up the chase for the assailants by studying the CCTV images and other evidence.
Appeal for Calm
Authorities have requested calm among the masses in the progress of investigations. Tightened security has been accorded to the area to prevent any further incidents.
This incident once again clarifies that security remains under threat in Punjab, and officials are tightening the noose around the state. More of these will come to light as the case unfolds.
