BCCI-Cricket Australia Umpire Exchange Program: Ben Treloar Assigned to Delhi-Gujarat Ranji Tie

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and Cricket Australia (CA) have announced an umpire exchange programme aimed at strengthening cooperation and providing match officials with experience in different domestic cricket environments.
Under the initiative, Australian umpire Ben Treloar will officiate in two Ranji Trophy matches in India, beginning with the Delhi-Gujarat fixture scheduled from October 18 to 21, 2026. He will subsequently oversee the Mumbai-Haryana match from October 26 to 29.
The programme will also send Indian umpire Parashar Joshi to Australia, where he will officiate in two Sheffield Shield matches and one One Day Cup fixture during November.
The exchange is intended to encourage knowledge-sharing, improve officiating standards and expose umpires to different playing conditions and domestic cricket structures.
Who Is Ben Treloar?
Treloar brings considerable experience from Australian domestic cricket. He has officiated in 30 first-class matches, 20 List A fixtures and 39 Big Bash League (BBL) games. His experience also includes two Women’s One Day Internationals and four Women’s T20 Internationals.
Beyond his on-field responsibilities, Treloar serves as the Umpire Education Officer at Cricket New South Wales. In this role, he contributes to training and developing emerging match officials.
His work in umpire education has earned him four George Borwick Memorial Awards from the New South Wales Cricket Umpires and Scorers Association.
His participation in the Ranji Trophy will offer an opportunity to experience India’s domestic cricket environment, where conditions, pitches and match situations can differ significantly from those encountered in Australia.
Parashar Joshi to Officiate in Australia
Under the agreement, the Indian umpire Parashar Joshi is scheduled to visit Australia for three domestic matches.
The umpire’s visit to Australia will start with the Sheffield Shield match between Queensland and Tasmania at the Gabba in Brisbane between November 11 and 14. He will then take up the one-day cup match between the two teams at the same venue on November 16.
The umpire’s tour to Australia will be concluded by the Sheffield Shield match between New South Wales and Queensland at the Sydney Cricket Ground between November 22 and 25.
Joshi has been in charge of 19 first-class, 32 List A and 40 T20 matches in India. His list of assignments includes Ranji Trophy, Duleep Trophy, Vijay Hazare Trophy, Deodhar Trophy, Indian Premier League and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
Strengthening International Umpiring Standards
This programme takes cognizance of the need for collaboration between cricket boards in the development of match officials through exposure to varying conditions and formats of play that may aid in decision making and adaptation.
This programme will further strengthen the bond between BCCI and Cricket Australia outside the international matches between them.
By giving the chance for umpiring in each other’s domestic leagues, the two cricket boards will be able to encourage the sharing of good practices for the development of the cricket match officials.
The programme is a step forward in the improvement of umpiring and strengthening of professional ties between cricket in India and Australia.
