44th Chess Olympiad: India Hosts World’s Biggest Chess Event
The world’s first and largest chess tournament will be held in India. Tamilnadu CM unveils its official logo. FIDE is to make the first Torch Relay in India.
The 44th Chess Olympiad 2022 will be held from July 28 to August 10, at Mamallapuram, Tamil Nadu, India. You must be aware that Chess was invented in India.
MK Stalin, the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, unveiled the official logo for the 44th Chess Olympiad. Thambi, a knight-like mascot dressed in traditional Tamil Veshti (Dhoti) with a shirt. Vanakkam (Tamil greetings) with folded hands is depicted.

The Chief Minister of Tamilnadu, M.K Stalin tweeted –
“Hosting the 44th Chess Olympiad is an absolute honor for Chennai and all our officials are putting assiduous efforts to make it a grand and memorable success in the history of Indian Sports.
In the run-up to the prestigious event, I released the official logo & mascot ‘Thambi’.”

All India Chess Federation (AICF)
With only a few days until the tournament, AICF authorities have been working hard to make sure that everything runs well.

The president of All India Chess Federation, Kapoor said –
“We want to set this Olympiad as a milestone for other sporting events in India. I’m confident that our team at AICF will leave no stone unturned in making this event a huge success.”
Global Teams At Chess-Originated Country
This tournament is expected to feature 343 teams from 187 nations throughout the globe in the open and women’s categories.
India’s two teams will compete in open events in both the men’s and women’s divisions.
The World Chess Federation, FIDE, is preparing the first Olympic-style Torch Relay in India, the country where the game was born.
