The Great ‘National Sports Awards’ of India 2022
The National Sports Awards of India are the prizes & honors given by the Indian government to sportspersons. The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports presents the sports awards every year.
On the 29th of August, the President of India traditionally awards them at a ceremony hosted at the Presidential Palace.
The Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award is the highest honor awarded to a sportsperson in India, and it was established in 1991-92.
It is granted for a sportspersons’ “most exceptional performance” over the previous four years. It includes a medal, a certificate, and a Rs 25 lakh cash prize.
The Government of India established the Arjuna Award in 1961 to honor excellent success in national sports competitions.
The prize includes a Rs 15 lakh cash prize, a bronze statue of Arjuna, and a scroll of honor.
The Government of India established the Dronacharya Award in 1985 to recognize expertise in sports coaching.
The prize includes a Rs 15 lakh cash prize, a bronze statue of Dronacharya, and a scroll of honor.
The Dhyan Chand Award was established in 2002 and consists of a Dhyan Chand statue, a Rs 10 lakh cash prize, a certificate, and ceremonial attire.
Individuals receive it for their “lifetime contribution to sports development.” It is for athletes who have made a positive impact on other athletes and sports via their achievements and who keep supporting sports even after retiring from active competition.
The Rashtriya Khel Protsahan Puruskar was established in 2009. This award recognizes sports persons as well as commercial and public organizations who have ‘playing a visible role in the area of sports promotion and development’ over the last 3 years’ duration.
