The first session of the West Bengal Assembly’s budget session had Mamata Banerjee with egg on her face as Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar did not approve of her praises of MLA(s) who seemed to have misbehaved in the session.
It was a situation of high drama that led to the Governor to comment over Ms. Banerjee’s comment and the situation as he tweeted, “Reflect!! Where are we heading! and why? Hon’ble CM applauding What! Disorder in House! We all need to work to blossom democracy,” the governor said attaching a video of the chief minister’s speech.
The high drama scene at the budget session literally forced Jagdeep Dhankhar to cut short his inaugural speech. BJP MLA(s) had become unruly over the alleged violence in the recently-concluded civic elections.

Apparently, Ms. Banerjee had praised all women MLAs recently for requesting the governor to read his inaugural speech in the House amid vociferous protests by BJP lawmakers. Dhankhar had asked Speaker Biman Bandyopadhyay a day ago to meet him on the incident. But ignoring the gross misconduct in the house, was obviously something the Governor would not have expected from the CM.
The Governor had gone ahead and also written a letter to speaker saying, “How ironical that the treasury benches, principal stakeholder in the address of the governor, were also in overdrive to contribute to the disorder in the House that was already witnessing unruly Opposition protests.” In response to his remarks and tweets, TMC spokesperson Kunal Ghosh answered back and said, “The tweet by governor also reveals his nexus with BJP and indicates his original plan to leave the Assembly midway without completing the procedure and our women MLAs didn’t allow that to happen.”
