Mamata Banerjee Vs Nephew Rift Grows, Another Turn In Bengal Politics?
Bengal -The Chief Minister of West Bengal and TMC Supremo Mamata Banerjee convened an emergency meeting of the party’s top officials at her residence on Saturday amid a growing rift between Mamata Banerjee and her nephew Abhishek Banerjee.
National general secretary Abhishek Banerjee, secretary-general Partha Chatterjee, state party president Subrata Bakshi, and ministers Firhad Hakim, Aroop Biswas, and Chandrima Bhattacharya were asked to attend the meeting.
Abhishek Banerjee’s push to promote a ‘One Man, One Post’ policy in the party has created a huge row. The row over the ‘One Man, One Post’ tweet has even dragged Prashant Kishor’s I-PAC in it. The meeting was meant to diffuse the tension in the party over the ‘one man, one post’ policy.
Reportedly, some loyalists of Abhishek Banerjee on Friday tweeted in favour of the ‘one-man, one-post policy’ which Mamata Banerjee had already relaxed in November last year.
On Friday, a political row erupted between Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Chandrima Bhattacharya and I-PAC (Indian Political Action Committee) after she alleged that her social media accounts had been “misused” by Prashant Kishor’s team. Reportedly, at 3.30 pm, Chandrima Bhattacharya tweeted in support of the ‘one-man,one-post policy’. At 4.05 pm, the tweet was deleted and Bhattacharya claimed that I-PAC posted on behalf of her without her consent.
Subsequently, Prashant Kishor said that I-PAC does not handle any account of the party or any of its leaders. Kishor accused Bhattacharya of lying.
TMC youth leader Sudip Raha said that Mamata Banerjee herself announced the ‘one-man-one-post policy’ earlier. Raha questioned why the party does not support ‘one-man-one-post policy’ now. Later on, Firhad Hakim clarified that now TMC does not support the one-man-one-post policy.
While visiting Uttar Pradesh (UP) to help Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav’s campaign, Mamata also talked about a campaign in Goa. Abhishek Banerjee is spearheading the party’s Goa foray. Reportedly, she said, “Somebody is campaigning in Goa, so I am not. I am going to other places.”
