Restored Version of ‘Manthan’ Screening on DD: A Tribute to the Legendary Filmmaker “Shyam Benegal”
The National Broadcaster of India has announced that they will stream the significant movie of the Veteran Indian Film Maker Shyam Benegal “Manthan” which has been restored with 4K version on January 1, 2025 as tribute to him. The restoration of this movie has been done by FHF (Film Heritage Foundation) for the premier in the Cannes Classic Section at the Cannes Film Festival which took place earlier in 2024.

Manthan – 1976
‘Manthan’ is a movie which narrates the revolution and struggle of Indians behind the iconic historical movement of India “White Revolution” was directed by the passionate visionary filmmaker Shyam Benegal. The lead character of this movie ‘Dr.Rao’ who encounters stratified challenges to implement a program for the poor and marginalised people, was played by the another esteemed actor, playwright in English and Kannada, Girish Karnad.
The movie reached a wide range of audiences due to its powerful screenplay which was written by Shyam Benegal and Vijay Tendulkar together and later the Indian Government recognised their excellency with the presentation of National Award for Best ScreenPlay in 1976 along with another award under the category of Best Feature Film in Hindi.
