Punjab Polls: AAP Picks Bhagwant Mann For Punjab
Punjab -Ahead of Punjab polls, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) picked Bhagwant Mann as a chief ministerial candidate for Punjab. Arvind Kejriwal announced the news after a televoting drive in which people were asked to phone in their choice.
The candidate was picked through a televoting system, which was set up by the political party a week ago. The initiative was called ‘Janta Chunegi Apna CM’. Reportedly, more than 21 lakh people participated in the vote. Bhagwant Mann received more than 93% of the votes out of nearly 21,00,000 votes.
AAP said that around 3 per cent votes were in the name of Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu. Reportedly, some people also voted for Kejriwal, the Chief Minister of Delhi. However, those votes were considered invalid.

Kejriwal made the announcement at an event in Mohali, Punjab. He said, “The person chosen as the Chief Ministerial candidate will be the next Chief Minister of Punjab.” Kejriwal is sure that AAP will win the upcoming election. Punjab will vote on February 20. The final result will be declared on March 10. AAP is the first party to announce a chief ministerial candidate in Punjab for the upcoming election. Congress and AAP are also the main contenders in the Punjab elections 2022.
A day before the announcement, the Election Commission of India rescheduled Punjab’s assembly elections to February 20, 2022. The polls were earlier scheduled for February 14.
Bhagwant Mann
Bhagwant Mann is a two-time MP (Member of Parliament) from Sangrur Lok Sabha seat and the party’s face in Parliament. He started his political career in 2011 when he joined the Manpreet Singh Badal-led People’s Party of Punjab. He joined the AAP in 2014. He was elected to Lok Sabha from the Sangrur seat. He was a Punjabi comedian and actor before becoming a politician.
