Political parties demand for UP poll to go ahead in scheduled time: EC
UP – Omicron cases are increasing in India making states implement strict protocols to curb the spread and ensure public safety. Given the current circumstance, it was expected the election commission to postpone the elections but it confirmed that it will not be the case.
The Uttar Pradesh elections are around the corner and the EC decided to take the consent of all the political parties involved in the election to know if they plan on going ahead with the election.
On Thursday, it clarified that all the parties are urging the EC to go ahead with the scheduled dates of the UP elections. Chandra also asserted that the political parties also suggested how the vulnerable groups in the population can be protected from the threat of infection.

Other than that, parties also raised concerns about violations of covid norms in rallies, and to which, they themselves asked for strict curbs to be protected. The remarks were posted after the visit of the Chief Election Commissioner to UP ahead of the state going into polls.
