PM Modi to Visit Canada on December 11–12

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will make a trip to Canada from December 11-12, 2026, as both nations look to deepen ties and boost collaboration in various strategic sectors. This visit was made possible by a phone call made between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Canadian counterpart, Mark Carney, where both agreed to capitalize on the positive momentum of their relationship.

This information was communicated through the High Commission of India in Ottawa on October 15th. The High Commission said the two nations were ready to reap tangible benefits in trade, energy, technology, security and people-to-people engagement. Nonetheless, the Ministry of External Affairs in India suggested that the dates had not yet been set and would have to be confirmed.

Trade Agreement Tops the Agenda

The CEPA is a top priority in the coming engagement process. India and Canada have been making attempts to conclude negotiations on the trade agreement, which will help to improve market access, investment and commercial ties.

Both nations have made clear that it is in their interest to conclude the negotiations as soon as possible. The CEPA is part of the wider process of increasing bilateral trade to reach the target of around C$70 billion by 2030.

Cooperation in the fields of energy and agriculture is also set to be discussed. Canada has a lot of energy resources, and India is a big consumer of energy products and agriculture cooperation.
