Retail Availability Challenges for Nintendo Switch 2
Though Nintendo has made extra efforts to stock up before the launch, getting a Nintendo Switch 2 is difficult for consumers. All major retailers sold their pre-order stock fast, which proves that the new console was highly sought after. It happens in the same way as Nintendo’s past launches, with not enough consoles at first to satisfy everyone who wants one.
Major retail chains have confirmed they received limited launch-day inventory for the Nintendo Switch 2. Available retailers include:
- Walmart – In-store and online availability with limited quantities
- GameStop – Physical locations and website offering consoles and accessories
- Best Buy – Store pickup and online ordering where stock permits
- Target – Limited inventory available through stores and Target.com
- My Nintendo Store – Invitation-only system for registered Nintendo Account holders
These retailers plan to offer the Nintendo Switch 2 through both physical store locations and online platforms, though quantities remain severely constrained.

My Nintendo Store Invitation System
Nintendo offers its unique products exclusively through the My Nintendo Store, which requires invitations before buyers can make a purchase. Even online users can save their details to express interest in the Nintendo Switch 2, yet the company does not promise it will be ready for all users right away.
People who are already subscribed to Nintendo Switch Online and use the services a lot are given priority by the invitation system. People who have used the subscription service for at least a year and played the game for at least 50 hours are introduced first. It benefits long-term customers and, at the same time, manages many orders at once.
On May 8th, the first batches of invitations were sent out, and invitations will be released on other dates regularly. When the choices are made, those chosen get 72 hours to act, so everyone has an incentive while staying fair to true prospects. According to Nintendo, it’s not possible to determine when an invitation will happen because of the large number of users and the supply not being constant.
