Threat Email to Mumbai Mayor Mentions Amitabh Bachchan and Diljit Dosanjh Concert Security

Vigilance by Mumbai Police and other agencies has been tightened following the receipt of an ominous mail threatening the offices of Mayor of Mumbai, Ritu Tawde; the house of Bollywood actor, Amitabh Bachchan, and the upcoming concert of singer, Diljit Dosanjh. This ominous mail was received on Friday, October 23rd.
This development is posing serious challenges for security arrangements at important public places and entertainment events in Mumbai.
Mayor’s Office Searched After Threat
According to officials, the email mentioned a bomb attack on the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) building in which the mayor’s office is located. The time of the attack was also mentioned in the email.
However, no such thing was found during searches by police officials at the place. In addition, it has been reported that the email was sent to the Deputy Mayor Sanjay Ghadi.
In addition to the BMC, the threat email had also mentioned the house of Amitabh Bachchan named Jalsa in Juhu. This attack could take place sometime between October 31 and November 27.
Diljit Dosanjh’s Mumbai Concert Under Security Focus
The e-mail also cited an upcoming performance by Diljit Dosanjh, whose performance was slated to take place on November 27 at the Mahalaxmi Racecourse in Mumbai.
The concert forms part of the musical tour in India that the artist has been undertaking. In such concerts, coordination between various stakeholders like the police and event organizers is important to facilitate management of crowd movement and access.
According to reports, increased security has been put in place at the concert site and other places mentioned in the e-mail.
Schools and Other Locations Also Mentioned
The threatening note reportedly contained warnings that were in relation to schools and had slogans related to Khalistan. The police are investigating these claims and have already taken precautions to evaluate any risk factor in the identified places.
The authorities have stressed on the need for verifying the message and not assuming that what is stated in it is a proven attack. No suspicious item has been found in the search conducted in the mayor’s office.
Investigation Continues
The Mumbai police are in the process of locating the source of the email and analyzing the credibility of the threats made.
This particular episode is a clear case of the need for speedy threat assessment and cooperation amongst the various law enforcement agencies, civic organizations, and event organizers. While it is important to take precautions in such situations, it is necessary for the officials to first ascertain the facts through investigation.
For the time being, the inquiry into the matter is ongoing, with security being stepped up at the places mentioned in the email.
