Who Will Be Exempt?
As per the draft passed by the Cabinet, the Scheduled Tribes will continue to be exempted from the Uniform Civil Code.
The exemption comes after the adoption of a similar policy in relation to the UCC of Uttarakhand.
What Is the Implementation Timeline?
This draft bill was approved by the cabinet of Madhya Pradesh on 20 July 2026. It is anticipated that this draft bill will be tabled in the present Monsoon Session of the State Legislature.
Should the Bill pass the State legislature, it will still need the assent of the Governor before being enacted into an Act. As of now, the date from which this Act will take effect has not been disclosed by the Government.
