EAM S Jaishankar Highlights India’s Diplomatic Role at Munich Leaders’ Meeting in New Delhi

The External Affairs Minister of India, S Jaishankar, spoke about the growing involvement of India in foreign affairs during the Munich Leaders Meeting held in New Delhi when world leaders debated about the changing world order. This meeting focused mainly on the geopolitical issues like international security, changing alliances and economic strength. Jaishankar’s speech revealed that India wants to be more involved in the international dialogues and not just react to the policies of powerful nations.
Jaishankar Calls for Greater Cooperation Among Emerging Powers
One of the themes that Jaishankar talked about is that emerging and middle powers should cooperate with each other. It is argued that nations which do not belong to the club of major powers should join their strengths in diplomacy, economy, and technology to overcome the challenges at the global level.
He stressed upon areas such as international peace and security, supply chain, health care, connectivity, climate change, advanced manufacturing, defense, and outer space as areas where they could cooperate.
India’s Role in Russia-Ukraine Peace Efforts
One of the key takeaways from S Jaishankar’s statements at the Munich Leaders Meeting was the revelation that India had taken its position of pushing for dialogue between Russia and Ukraine to the next level.
As he revealed, the Indian government has been talking to both the Russian and Ukrainian governments and has been trying to be “helpful” in addressing the situation.
These talks from the Indian side have covered aspects such as the security of the Black Sea shipping route, grain and energy exports, and even the ways of preventing future attacks.
A Changing Global Order
In addition to this, Jaishankar highlighted the global environment as being marked by a “radical repositioning” of the US and the emergence of China. He went on to say that rivalry between great powers is now increasingly influencing nations globally and is playing a role in the weaponization of various levers of power. In light of such an environment, India is emerging as a nation state which is both influential and able to interact with rival groups.
Why the Munich Meeting Matters for India
The Munich Leaders Meeting 2026 in New Delhi offers a key opportunity for India to showcase its diplomatic skills. According to the statements by Jaishankar, New Delhi hopes for the active involvement of emerging powers in shaping the global security and economic structures.
In other words, India expects its diplomacy to become more influential due to the changing world order.
