Jaipur Internet Shutdown Explained: Why Mobile Internet Was Suspended for 24 Hours Across Parts of the City

Citizens in various parts of Jaipur got a rude shock in the morning after realizing that all mobile internet services had been halted for 24 hours.

The decision to ban mobile internet services and social media came on the instruction of the Jaipur administration in view of an impending anti-encroachment campaign to be conducted by the Jaipur Development Authority (JDA). Law and order and spread of rumors were the two major reasons cited for taking such action.

Due to the wide scope of the blockade, a lot of people faced disturbances while using online banking, making digital payments, booking rides, and accessing social media platforms.

Both government and local authorities justify the need for suspension of internet services as a precautionary measure during such situations.

The key goal of such actions is to curb the swift dissemination of rumors and other forms of provocative content as well as to minimize any possibility of agitation against the administration.
