Indian Cricket Team Honours Late PM Manmohan Singh with Black Armbands at MCG Test
Indian cricket team wore black armbands on second day of fourth test match against Australia at Melbourne Cricket Ground to pay tribute to Former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, who died on 26 th DEC, 2024. This gesture was also approved by the BCCI through a statement while the players including virat Kohli was on the field.
Former Indian Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh died at the age of 92 in the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi. The former Prime Minister had fainted at his home because of his old age complications before he was rushed to the hospital. Dr. Manmohan Singh was credited with being the ‘Father of Economic Reforms’, that India initiated in 1991 when he was the Finance Minister of India, and helped in preventing the country from the severe economic crisis.
The touching gesture occurred when Australia was at 311 for 6 on the second day on play and Indian team wearing black armbands to pay tribute to the loss of a leader who made India a financial powerhouse.
