Owing to the conflict situation between Russia and Ukraine, India has deferred Def Expo 2022 on Friday in a last-minute announcement.
It was highly expected that sooner or later India will be making this announcement as Russia and the defense sector of India are very deeply linked. India stated that the exhibition has been deferred on grounds of “logistics problems” faced by participants.
The officials linked the decision to the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia. The event which included nearly 1,000 defense firms from 55 countries was expected to start in Gujrat’s gandhinagar from March 10-14, 2022.
The event was to witness participation from the United States, Russia and many other European nations along with Ukraine but ended up being canceled despite estimating heavy presence. This was projected to be Asia’s largest defense exhibition.

The defense ministry said, “Due to logistics problems being experienced by participants, DefExpo 2022 is postponed. The new dates will be communicated in due course.” The ministry refrained from detaining out what could be the reasons behind the decision.
Even though many experts predicted that there would be a postponement, it surely did impact the firms which had participated in the event. A representative of the foreign military contractor said that it is extremely disappointing that even the reason has not been disclosed and many of the firms are left hanging to find out about how to do things now.
