Harsh Dubey Takes R Smaran’s Spot in SRH Team Due to Injury

Late into the season, Sunrise Hyderabad made a change to their side, introducing Harsh Dubey in place of R Smaran, who has been ruled out of IPL 2025 with an injury.
Dubey is a 22-year-old left-arm spinner and all-rounder who stood tall this Ranji season for Vidarbha. He took as many as 69 wickets, the highest ever in a single Ranji Trophy season, bettering the previous record of 68 set by Ashutosh Aman in 2018-19. This phenomenal run helped Vidarbha to the Ranji Trophy title, and now he has gained the opportunity to prove himself in the IPL with a ₹30 lakh contract from SRH.

Dubey has been brilliant in the longer format, but still has work to do to get accustomed to the shorter forms. He has picked 21 wickets from 20 innings in List A cricket and 9 wickets from 16 innings in the T20s while conceding at an average economy rate of 6.78. But after his Ranji antics, SRH would be hoping he will infuse a fresh set of energies into an ailing squad.
It has been a season full of lows for Sunrisers Hyderabad, who occupy the ninth position with three wins from ten games. Their playoff chance is hanging by a thread; they need to win every match henceforth and hope the results go their way. Even then, their net run rate of -1.192 is a massive stop against them.
SRH will next go against the Delhi Capitals on home soil in Hyderabad on Monday evening. With nothing to lose and a fresh face on the team, they will be hoping for a strong finish.
