Bulli Bai Case: Bengaluru Student Arrested, Uttarakhand Woman Detained
Uttarakhand – A 21-year-old engineering student named Vishal Jha was detained in Bengaluru in a raid by a Mumbai Police team in connection with the ‘Bulli Bai’ case. He was brought to Mumbai on Monday. An 18-year-old woman, Shweta Singh, was also detained from Uttarakhand.
The woman is suspected to be the main accused in the case. The woman, a class 12 pass-out, has been produced before a local judge in Udham Singh Nagar district who granted transit remand to take her to Mumbai. Both the students are being questioned now. The Engineering student has been sent to police custody till January 10. Reportedly, both of them were in touch with each other.
Bulli Bai app
On the ‘Bulli Bai’ app, Muslim women were posted and ‘auctioned’ without their consent. Many Muslim women were listed for “auction” on the ‘Bulli Bai’ app. The matter came to light on January 1 when many Muslim women found themselves on ‘auction’ on the app. The photographs were sourced without their permission. The student used their social media handle to share derogatory content from the Bulli Bai app. The boy was traced through the IP address of the Twitter accounts that were used to upload the pictures.
Prominent journalists, activists, and lawyers were among those listed for ‘auction’ in the app.
As per the report by NDTV, police said that the app had no connection to Sikhs. However, the accused allegedly made it look as if it was linked to Khalistani groups. According to The Indian Express, doctored photos of at least 100 Muslim women, along with bad remarks and comments, were posted online. A journalist first reported the issue. Based on the complaint of a journalist, the Delhi Police also registered an FIR in the matter. The app is seen to be a clone of ‘Sulli Deals’ that triggered a similar row last year.
